Chair – Mr. Barnie Day
Mr. Day is a former state legislator who served in the Virginia General Assembly from 1996 until 2001. He is now an executive with Smith River Community Bank in Stuart. Previously, Mr. Day was county administrator for Patrick County and owner of Vesta Supply. He is a native of Person County, N.C., and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina and a master’s of business administration from Duke University.

Paul
Nichols is former Executive Director of Administration for Halifax County
Public Schools and was chosen by the VASS Board of Directors to lead the
statewide AP initiative due to his strong background in education and his
experience in starting up and leading such innovative endeavors in
Virginia.

Jennifer
Stevens was the Research and Development Specialist for the Southern
Virginia Higher Education Center and was part of the proposal team that secured
the NMSI grant for Virginia. She is a former educator and has
extensive experience in administering grant projects and managing budgets
relative to educational programming.
